The use of radionuclides in industry, medicine, and scientific research often contributes to a certain dose of radiation that a person receives through inhalation, ingestion of food, or direct exposure to radiation sources. Exposure to ionizing radiation is expressed by the effective dose, and it is estimated that a person on average receives an effective dose of 2.4 mSv per year from natural radiation. The fact that certain harmful effects are not manifested immediately does not exclude their occurrence later, during the lifetime of individuals exposed to radiation or even in some later generations of a given population. Therefore, with every exposure, you should keep in mind the ALARA principle (ALARA - As Low As Reasonably Achievable), a generally accepted international concept of preventive protection, according to which any unnecessary exposure to radiation should be avoided and necessarily reduced to the minimum possible extent. The radiation risk for the whole body or individual organs is determined through the effective dose or tissue dose equivalents and the corresponding probability coefficients adopted by the International Committee on Radiation Protection: Recommendations 2007 of the International Commission on Radiological Protection, Publication number 103 (The 2007 Recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection, ICRP Publication 103). In order to apply consistent monitoring to control internal exposure, direct measurements were carried out in this work - measurement of radionuclide activity in the entire human body (Whole Body Counter-WBC). This type of measurement is based on the detection of ionizing radiation emitted from the human body using detectors placed in the immediate vicinity of the body. During the previous period, before the establishment of the current work regime, the optimization of the WBC system was carried out by purchasing new equipment, adequate reconstruction of the space, as well as professional training of the staff who perform measurements. The results presented in this paper showed a significant improvement in detection efficiency and reduction of measurement uncertainty in accordance with the recommendations of the International Atomic Energy Agency - IAEA. (International Atomic Energy Agency – IAEA). Keywords: Population protection from radiation, effective dose, ALARA - preventive protection system, radiation detectors, Whole Body Counter,
